a rambling overview of the family status

Busy these days. We're going to the library on Mondays and the pool on Fridays, as an attempt to keep some sort of routine to our summer. We had a very long and quiet weekend, started cutting down a tree, did some sewing, watched some fireworks. Austin's mom is coming for about a week starting Wednesday. Yippee! My mama is leaving tomorrow for Memphis, where she will rendezvous with all four of her siblings—the first time all five of them will have been together in that location since 1968. I guess it will be an historic event. I have 'adopted' my friend Ann's daughter and am making her a bag/purse. She wants it to be magenta with a heart and her name on it, so I have been fabric shopping and quilting in my basement. Of course I'm making extra hearts for myself and/or future projects. They are so cute, I will post pictures later. Soren has been extra grumpy, I'm wondering if he's going through a growth spurt or something. He is a leaping maniac, can't stop jumping and climbing. He's a regular monkey (a very sweet one, when he's not screaming). Owen is wonderful, just becoming so responsible and helpful and is really making an effort to be a peacemaker and a good example to his brother, to the effect that they are playing really nicely together so far this summer. Owen continues to improve on his math and reading skills, which is exciting. Right now he is in a paper airplane phase and has been employing the nifty book from Grandpa and Jeri. He's getting quite good. Austin spent a couple of days in southern California last week for a work meeting, which was nice because he got to visit his family for a night. He'll be at Princeton for a couple weeks and then Minneapolis another week later in the summer, then he'll go to Berekely for another meeting/conference/whatever for a few days. Owen wants to take a karate class. I should sign Soren up for gymnastics (I've been saying that for months now, but I really mean it this time). Talked to Clayton tonight. I miss my brothers.
